Friends of Canada Special Wish Fund for the Philippines Lends A Hand

August 21, 2006

Through the Friends of Canada Special Wish Fund for the Philippines, a fund generously created by Mr. Eldon Johnson, more Filipino wish children can now experience the amazing power of a wishgrant. The children will be able to get their wishes sooner and not wait in line for sponsors and donations.

We had Kenneth's wishgrant August 21, 2006 at Jollibee headed by our expert wishgranting chairperson Sharlyn Javellana. The team closed one section of the restaurant for an animal farm themed party. It was a relaxing gathering more than a high-energy celebration. There were visible sighs of relief as Ken’s family mingled with the guests and enjoyed their treats. Kenneth mused as he licked his favorite pink strawberry sundae.

Wishgranting started with the volunteers and wishfamily asking Ken to blow out the wish candle on his colorful cake. Right after, the first surprise came in- an autographed picture of his idol, Darna, Ms. Angel Locsin. Ken couldn't contain his smiles and giggles! Hearing him get so tickled about that small gift is contagious. Then came the big red box (which we hid under the table) from our Canadian friends. When asked what he thought was inside, he shrugged and shied away. When he opened the gift, he gave us an even bigger smile when he saw the shiny silver microphone that was part of the karaoke system given to him. He seemed to do not want to let go of the picture but at the same time he so wanted to start singing, his little hands can’t hold both. He ran through all the VCDs that he could use to sing with his new micro component, you could see that he can’t decide which one to sing first, even his sisters started crowding and looking through the discs. It was so obvious that he wanted to go straight home and start singing. The volunteers made a deal with him that he can only sing up to around 8pm after that he must rest because the following day is another chance to sing his heart out. At the end of the day, we said our goodbyes and they expressed their immense gratitude to Make-A-Wish® Philippines and told us to make sure that our Canadian friends know that what they did to the Mendoza family will never be forgotten.
