Dom1nation Wish Grant
APRIL 28 , 2007
It was one of the hottest days in April, a sure sign of how intense the following Wishgrant was going to be. The occasion coincided with DOM1NATION, an event organized by IP E-GAMES - creators of video games such as Supreme Destiny and RAN On Line. IP E-Games thought it perfect to ADOPT-A-WISH and grant personal computer wishes to children of Make-A-Wish® Philippines. Knowing this, we already knew that the Wishgrant event was sure to be an exciting and lively one.
Preparations for the affair only took one week. Four wish children who have been waiting for their wishes to come true, Micheal (age 13), Jethro (age 16), Aljay (age 9) and Marc (age 18), all longed to have their very own computers. Micheal and Aljay who are both afflicted with ALL wished for computers because they want to use it for school, but when secretly asked, they wanted to play different sorts of games on it, just like any boys their age. Jethro who has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma was pretty upfront about his wish, he enjoys playing online games. Marc on the other hand, who is afflicted with Naso-Pharyngeal Carcinoma, already has a Playstation at home, the computer he wished for is to be used for school.
The wish children, their parents and a couple of other relatives were given the VIP treatment on the Dom1Nation, IP e-Games first year anniversary celebration event. When they arrived at Le Pavillon, they were automatically ushered into the special guest area where they were met by the officers of IP E-Games, celebrities and mascots. The timid kids soon warmed up and were pretty excited. They couldn’t wait to try out the all the games around them. At this point, the Wishgrant was still kept under wraps. The Make-A-Wish® Philippines volunteers who attended are mostly from the popular - Dream Machine Wishteam. They made sure that everyone was comfortable, cameras clicked everywhere to remember the day by.
While having their merienda, the wish children were chatting about the different hospitals they come from and were exchanging treatments they have undergone so far. They talked about common wish child friends in their hospitals. Medical terms pop out from their mouths like candy flavors, one can tell just by listening in that they have been through a lot from the experiences they had. Booie Segovia, the current Foundation President joined them and gave a warm welcome. "Today there is no such thing as a hospital, today no one is sick, and you boys are just like anyone else here." This is one of the goals that Make-A-Wish® Philippines tries to achieve through Wishgranting, a special day wherein our wish children forget about illnesses and problems.
A short while after, the wish children and their love ones were ushered to the stage. There was a certain hype that went along with the granting, the host told the kids to look behind them and much to their surprise, there were these huge boxes that contained monitors, keyboards, CPU’s and other computer paraphernalia. Each of them was presented with their own brand new personal computers. And the wish children thought they were just there to be welcomed and enjoy trying out the different PC e-games. They were told that they can bring these computers home and enjoy the gaming experiences they have that day on these PCs. You can just imagine how eager their faces looked at that minute and wanted to set-up their computers that IP E-Games gave them right away.
After the awarding, the children were ushered by IP E-Games representatives and were taught how to play the different games that was given to them. The volunteers joined in the fun and some were talking to the parents and listening to their stories. One must remember that the patient who is suffering from a life-threatening illness is not the only one in pain, all the people who love him or her also suffer emotionally and in most cases physically. Not only do they take care of their children but they too have to be strong for them. They too need a break sometimes, and volunteers listening to them give the Wishfamily a channel to vent, an ear to listen to and of course a shoulder to cry on. At the end of every Wishgrant it is also the goal of Make-A-Wish® Philippines to make sure that the day is a memorable and inspiring one for all. That was achieved in this Wishgrant, as one volunteer strongly witnessed when they all went home, all she heard were stories of how amazing the day was.
